sitemap-index

Hello friends as I discussed my previous post sitemap is graphical representation of website pages and helps to search engine to index & crawl web pages. But sitemap has some limitations in terms of size and numbers of urls.

Sitemap has – maximum 50000 urls & max 10MB file size (after un-gzipping)

If your website has more than 50000 urls and wants to create sitemap for your website then you can do this with the help of sitemap index.

Sitemap Index: – Also a XML file having number’s of sitemap entries and used for creating sitemap of large website having web pages in lacks and many more.

Syntax of Sitemap Index:

<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″?>

<sitemapindex xmlns=”http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9″>

<sitemap>

<loc>http://www.example.com/sitemap1.xml.gz</loc>

<lastmod>2004-10-01T18:23:17+00:00</lastmod>

</sitemap>

<sitemap>

<loc>http://www.example.com/sitemap2.xml.gz</loc>
